Position Summary:
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Commercial Management Lead to join the Commercial Planning Leadership team on a permanent basis
In this role you will lead the Commercial Management and Value Chain Analysis (VCA) team to define and lead the delivery of the Waitrose Supplier Strategy and Value Chain Analysis Roadmap. This will underpin an end-to end efficiency programme targeting range optimisation and a significant reduction in the number of suppliers (from over 2,000 currently) and deliver significant COGS improvements.
You will Business Partner the Directors of Ambient and Fresh Trading and under your direction, the team will provide senior negotiation support for strategic suppliers where relationships are complex due to size and exposure and importance of the supplier. You will ensure that resources are focused where it will have the most impact.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead a high performing, happy team which develops talent and supports Partners in fulfilling their potential
- As part of delivering the supplier strategy, you will particularly focus on planning the approach for the top 150 supplier negotiation strategy and keep a high level track of progress to ensure commercial outcomes are maximized.
- The commercial management team will help coordinate complex and cross category negotiations (e.g. LTA suppliers, dedicated suppliers, cross category suppliers)
- Strong knowledge of Competition Law and GSCoP and how to correctly write-up and agree Commercial Agreements with suppliers to offer guidance and support to the buying teams
- You will work with the Trading Director, Heads of Category Trading and the Commercial Managers to develop an ambitious supplier strategy and value chain analysis roadmap that is consistent with Waitrose overall strategic, financial and ethics & sustainability objectives.
- Under your leadership the Commercial Management/VCA team will work collaboratively to ensure the successful delivery of these plans.
- Be an ambassador for fairness and consistency in how we do business with suppliers
Requirements & Skills:
- Extensive commercial negotiation experience
- Stakeholder management and influencing
- Extensive commercial and value chain management experience in food and associated non-food retail or food manufacturing / supply
- Strong understanding of GSCOP and Commercial Law
- Excellent analytical and financial understanding
- Experience of influencing situations which require a high degree of emotional intelligence
- Experience of leading and developing high performing teams
